The scaffolding came down last week, and the extension already feels pretty much a part of the fabric of our home. The plastering (dry-lined and skimmed) is now drying out, and soon the plumber will arrive to put in two extra radiators. The flooring will be screeded (concrete floors are often finished with a layer of sand and cement screed to give a level and smooth finish) and will then be ready to receive the tiles I’ve chosen. The electrician will return to fit all the switches, socket and lighting outlets, central heating controls, earth protection and connect the consumer unit to the wiring carcass which was installed at first fix stage.
It feels as though the finishing touches are only days away, but I think it may still be a few weeks. We’ll then decide on colours for the walls and ceilings (neutral probably!), but the transformation is surprising. Judge for yourself – it’s no ‘Grand Design’ but I’m pleased with the results, and hope to spend many relaxing hours in my new room.
